Nassim Guammaz - Venice Beach, 2015

"This is a picture from 2015 shot at the Venice Beach skatepark. That day I made sure to go early to avoid the crowds. I brought along Nassim Guammaz, skateboarder from the Netherlands. The fun fact, and the idea behind this photo montage, came 6 years later, while talking with a friend. He liked the fact that the shadow of the skateboard looked like a surfboard. But I never noticed that myself until he pointed at it. I found that fascinating, and as soon as I came back home, I tried this photo montage, that instantly worked. I love when people make new interpretations of my pictures and see things that I don’t see myself. Last but not least, skateboarding was invented by frustrated surfers when the ocean was flat, precisely in this part of Los Angeles, so the meaning behind this picture is even greater." - Fred Mortagne
